Facility Planning

April - October 2026

The Board of Education selected Nexus Solutions to provide comprehensive facility assessment services, which includes everything from assessing our buildings and grounds to understanding our staff and student needs. When the assessment is complete, needs will be reviewed and potential solutions will be discussed with the School Board. At that time, options for funding will be evaluated, including potential referendums for operational and facility needs.

May 2026

In May, staff members participated in a survey providing detailed feedback on building function and how it impacts both the staff work environment and the student learning environment. This data helps our facilities planning team when assessing the facilities.

Staff identified many strengths. Comments praised the dedication of teachers, administrators, custodians and maintenance staff and highlighted valued spaces such as the Performing Arts Center, athletic complex, gyms, library and other updated areas. Staff also spoke positively about school culture, safety and welcoming environments.

There are also areas that deserve a closer look. Feedback identified concerns involving an aging Middle School, heating and temperature control, indoor air quality, furniture, classroom flexibility, small-group learning areas, windows, lighting, plumbing, storage, accessibility, specialized instructional spaces, and playground conditions.

July 2026

As part of its ongoing long-range operational and facilities planning process, the District conducted a randomized community survey, led by a third-party company that specializes in Community Surveys. The survey included approximately 400 randomly selected district residents and it is designed to gather statistically reliable feedback from the community. The results help the Board of Education and district administration better understand community priorities, awareness, concerns and perspectives as planning discussions continue.

The polling showed that the community believes Kiel provides a strong education and that trust in the District is a significant strength. Eighty-four percent of respondents rated the quality of education as good or excellent, while 86% indicated that the learning needs of most or all students are being met.
